While Københavns Kommune openly discusses the possibility of selling Kødbyen to private property developers, it's interesting to explore compromises to the large scale forfeiture of the historic buildings. In this proposal, some of the parking has been rezoned for private development, with the following consequences:
The mass timber towers provide badly needed student accommodation in the center of the city. A covered all-season, vegetable farmers' market finds a permanent home in the historic meat-packing district. Kødbyen's lack of biodiversity is mitigated by the addition of a dense green island with habitats for plant and animal life. Finally the injection of capital from the sale of the unique property and increased tax revenue can contribute to the ongoing maintenance of the listed buildings.
